On the other hand, IS-10577/82 specifically outlines the requirements for lancing pipes, which are used in applications such as the extraction of molten metal from bottom pouring furnaces. In pipe nomenclature, NB stands for Nominal Bore, which is a designation used to represent the pipe's name or size. NB is not the same as the OD (Outside Diameter) of the pipe, as it is a general reference used for classification purposes.
According to IS-10577/82, which specifies the requirements for lancing pipes, the pipes are actually classified by their OD (Outside Diameter) rather than the ID (Inside Diameter). This is because the pipes are often threaded at one or both ends, and the OD must fall within a specific range as specified by the standard. This ensures consistency in manufacturing and guarantees that the threading, which is crucial for pipe connection, fits correctly. Therefore, while NB is the name assigned to the pipe size, the OD determines the physical dimensions and the pipe's ability to be threaded as required for specific industrial applications.

Verify Pipe Thickness: It’s challenging to check the thickness of each pipe individually when purchased by meter. Count Bundles and Pipes: Accurately counting the number of pipes in each bundle is difficult, especially since pipes are typically bundled together, making it hard to ensure consistency.
Measure Pipe Lengths: The pipes are often supplied in bundles, which can resemble broomsticks, and measuring the exact length of each pipe becomes impractical. However, in our case, we ensure strict tolerance of 0.1 meters on length, ensuring consistency and accuracy. Given these challenges, our company prefers to supply pipes by Metric Tons to ensure uniformity, transparency, and accuracy in the delivery process. However, if a customer insists on purchasing by meter, we request that the Weight per meter, as specified in the relevant IS (Indian Standards) or BS (British Standards), be clearly stated in the purchase order. This helps to prevent any discrepancies and ensures that the materials supplied meet the exact specifications.
